Finding Periwinkle...

Pantone announced its color of the year 2022 17-3938 Very Peri

"Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions."

Pfeiffer Beach

Pfeiffer Beach is known for Keyhole Arch a beautiful rock formation, and for its purplish sand. The purple hues are caused by different minerals present in the sand. Whereas most sand is composed of quartz, this beach has areas that are of manganese garnet. You won’t be able to see purple sand every visit, but the best chances are after a rainstorm. Keyhole Arch or Keyhole Rock is the main focal point of Pfieffer Beach with its mesmerizing rush of water flowing through the arched window. Between NOV - JAN, the sunset lines up with the archway creating a beautiful show of light. The glow through the arch makes it look like a portal to another world. Swimming is not recommended with the strong currents & fierce waves. The turn-off for Pfeiffer Beach is located on Highway 1, one mile south of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park's entrance. Heading south from the State Park entrance, it is the second right turn. Pfeiffer Beach is not a California State Park and charges a separate entrance fee.

Rainbow House

Big Sur

Colorful and cozy, Rainbow House is ideal for guests who want to experience the Big Sur lifestyle surrounded by the tranquility of nature: spring water, the ocean, the gray-scented air, a view over the dome mahogany filled with hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.

Located in a garden on a hillside, Rainbows & Dragons Hike Inn is a 10min hike up a steep path that zigzags guests through the redwoods.

Henry Miller Memorial Library

Hidden in the Forest of Big Sur

This unique bookstore is concealed by a groove of redwood trees just a five-minute drive from Coast Big Sur. A former residence of author Henry Miller himself - it opened in 1981. It's not only a bookstore that sells works by renowned authors but also hosts events in the forest - film screenings, readings, dinners & live performances with artists from Philip Glass and Patti Smith to Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Highway One - Big Sur - California

A visit to Big Sur would not be complete without a stop at iconic

NEPENTHE standing 808 feet above sea level on the site of The Log House, Big Sur which was built by the old “Trails Club” in 1925.

Rita Hayworth and Orson Welles were heading back to LA on the new scenic route, Highway One. "Looking for a spot to picnic, they ventured up a meandering dirt road that took them to a cabin on a hill overlooking the south coast. Entranced by the view before them, they went looking for a realtor to sell them the cabin. It would be their retreat from the hubbub of the movie industry, a place just for the two of them. Rita measured the windows for curtains, and Orson talked about laying in pipe for gas in the kitchen. Scrounging for a down payment, they came up with a little over $167.00 between them. And the place was theirs. They never came back to the cabin on the hill, selling it in 1947..." to Lolly and Bill Fassett. "...And people came, not just from the ridge-tops and canyons, but from all over the world: vagabonds, poets, artist, lovers. Later, the Phoenix Shop would grow out of the traveling merchants who spread their colorful wares on Lolly's living room floor. When there were fewer people on the coast, when nights were longer and days lonelier, Nepenthe was a place to gather. Famous even before it opened for its unique architecture and incandescent views, Nepenthe is known for its family hospitality, legendary guests, and irresistible 'Ambrosiaburger'. In Greek, Nepenthe means "isle of no care," a place to find surcease from sorrow. So, it continues to be for travelers today. A place to stop, to dream, to lift a cup to kindness..."

Albert Camus 1913-1960

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it say that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there's something stronger - something better pushing right back.”
